HOLE 1
Muirshield
The new hole created for the 1st has kept the ties with the original ground selected back in 1935 for the course, as the farmland was called The Muirsheild. The farm house is still located adjacent.
Teeing off at the clubhouse, the 1st hole is a challenging Par 3 from the back tee, down across the burn to a welcoming, large green. Make sure to miss the refurbished stone bridge!
HOLE 2
Earn Water
This hole is named after the river that runs parallel with the fairway, while the Thorter Burn runs across it. The 2nd was one of the existing Eastwood holes which has been restored with refurbished bridges.
HOLE 4
Prestwick
The first 12 Open Championships were held at Prestwick Golf Club, on the original 12-hole course. Eight professional players competed for the prize of a red Moroccan leather belt and eventually rested on the hips of Willie Park of Musselburgh who recorded a score of 174 for 36 holes (three rounds of 12 holes).
One of the most challenging of our holes, this left hand dogleg requires a good drive and an equally good second shot!
HOLE 5
Crawstane Milestone
On the 5th hole, look out for the milestone marker which we’ve had restored! Standing stones were primarily used as markers along roads to indicate distances to towns and cities.
Our 4th and 5th holes have been created by the team at Eastwood Twelve from the old 6th to create two new exciting and challenging holes.
HOLE 7
Shiskine
Shiskine is the longest established 12 hole course in Scotland. A beautiful 12-hole, seaside links course with wonderful views – where a lot of our inspiration was drawn from.
Our 7th is a dogleg right, with a raised green, so a tricky second shot.
HOLE 8
Hazelden
The name Hazelden was used, as down the road there was a row of mill cottages beside a mill pond.
The 8th plays towards the corner of our course which faces onto Hazelden Road, and is a subtle dogleg to the left.
HOLE 9
Western
In 1897 the lease of the land for a new club Western Gailes, was signed in the old clubhouse at Eastwood. Members of Eastwood and other surrounding clubs were involved, and Eastwood’s William Johnstone was to become the first captain of Western.
A straight Par 4 to begin your journey back to the clubhouse.
HOLE 10
Lindsay’s Lair
Neil Lindsay has been greenkeeper at Eastwood for 35 years and is to retire in 2025 – this one’s for you Neil!
The 10th is a brand new hole created by Eastwood Twelve. A short Par 3 hitting down into a receptive and gathering green and over a burn.
HOLE 11
Lochan
The 11th green sits nicely beside the Lochan, in which we may be finding a lot of your golf balls! One of our personal favourites, the 11th offers gorgeous views of the valley in which the course lies in.
HOLE 12
Bertie’s Bairns
Our longest hole on the course is named after Bertie Brand who was the first winner of the Eastwood Club Championship Cup in 1935. Also the name of the ‘Eastwood song’ which finishes on the verse;
“We’ll haud awa’ some simmer day and seek
the Muir ‘ Mearns
To ca’ the ba’ and drink a toast wi’ Bertie
And his Bairns.”
Eastwood Twelve accommodates every type of golfer from newcomers to low-handicappers, juniors to seniors, and everyone in between.
